REVEALED: THE FACTS ON WOODSIDE AND LABOR’S DODGY GAS DEAL
State and Federal Labor governments are about to do a dodgy deal that will deliver more gas exports for Woodside while Australian families and businesses get ripped off with higher energy prices.
If approved by Labor, the North West Shelf extension at the Burrup Hub will allow Woodside to export massive amounts of gas from onshore gas fields that have previously been reserved only for use by Australian homes and businesses.
The facts are that state and federal Labor governments are allowing multinational gas companies to rip us off.
Fact: There is no ‘gas shortage’ in Australia. The real problem is that over 80% of the gas produced here is being exported to overseas markets.
Fact: Gas companies like Woodside make more profits selling our gas overseas than supplying it to Australian homes and businesses.
Fact: Gas companies pay no royalties for the majority of gas they export.
Fact: Labor’s deals with gas exporters in Queensland have seen gas prices double for Australian homes and businesses in the East. Western Australia is headed in the same direction.
Fact: WA Labor has already started opening up our domestic gas reserves for export by Woodside. Western Australia has benefited from its domestic gas reservation policy, but now that policy is being undermined by Woodside.
Fact: Woodside’s North West Shelf export facility is already the biggest consumer of WA’s domestic gas for export, while we face a phoney ‘gas shortage’ at home.
Fact: Woodside is running out of offshore gas to export through the North West Shelf. Woodside has not identified supply to fill export capacity for the next 50 years. They’ll have no other choice but to come after onshore gas previously reserved for Western Australians.
Australians are already getting ripped off by gas exporters.
This will get worse if Labor signs off on Woodside’s 46-year gas export extension.
Take a stand: Email you Labor representatives and urge them to reject Labor’s dodgy gas deal.
